Geek Girls Rule! Podcast #16 – My Grandpa, Fic Fail, Movies and Stuff

Posted by geekgirlsrule on May 17, 2010

So, you can go download Podcast #16 here

Yes, I know I haven’t posted 15 yet, but it’s going to take a lot of editing.  And I don’t know if you guys have realized this, but I don’t like to do a lot of editing on my podcasts.  I generally go through and take out the majorities of the “um”s, or if you can hear me sniffling a lot, and that’s about it.  Every once in a while I’ll take out something particularly snotty, but not often.

So, yeah, 16 is up before 15, but 15 is coming.  Soon.  Promise.

ETA:  Yes, I know Iron Man’s nemesis is the Mandarin.  I told you I wasn’t sure.  I posted a correction in the show notes.

Geek Girls Rule! #89 – Miscellaneous crap and symptoms of the mid-30s hormone rush…

Posted by geekgirlsrule on June 26, 2009

I know it’s been awhile.  I kind of blew my wad with the Joe Quesada drinking game et al., and I’ve been blogging on geeky topics over at the California NOW blog.  Topics include the LA Times’ “Girls’ Guide to Comicon” (the resulting aneurysm wiped out 3rd grade), the Today show segment on the fact that Gosh, Golly and Don’t You Just Know It!,* girls play videogames!!!  And how they managed to interview the founder of the Frag Dolls without once mentioning what Frag means and what game they’re most famous for playing (HALO) I’ll never fucking know.  The most recent blog post there is about why my hobbies courting “normal” girls pisses me off so damn much.

That’s not all I’ve been up to.  Tonight is the kickoff for Go Play NW!  The Geek Husband What Rules and I will be at the kickoff feast, and then gaming.  I have no idea what I’ll be playing.  I never sign up for anything ahead of time.  Instead I usually see who needs a player, or barring that, see who else is leftover and we’ll form a game in a lobby or something.  I’m so moody about my gaming, as in I need to be in the mood for something to really dig on it, that signing up ahead of time really doesn’t work out that well for me.

Now, as relates to hormones…  As much as I adore Nightcrawler of the X-men (eXcalibur, etc…), is it wrong that every time they come up with a “bad” or, let’s just say, less moral version of him in another timeline (gotta love the multiverse), that I develop a mad crush on that version as well.  Maybe a fiercer crush…  A friend just gave me a copy of the orignal miniseries with Ilyana Rasputin, where she’s taken by Belasco and… Nightcrawler in a loincloth… sigh…

Yeah, I’m a walking mass of libido, which to be honest has not changed since adolescence.  It’s one of the many reasons the Mister married me.

The Geek Husband What Rules will be at DragonFlight this year, I might be there for a day.  My partner in crime over at Geek Sisterhood, Sophie, will also be up for Dragonflight!!

I’ve also got a podcast I’m editing for here.  An interview with my friend Karnythia about her new publishing house, Verb Noire

*Why yes, I am originally from the Midwest.  How’d you guess?

Geek Girls Rule! #28 – Four Color Heroines

Posted by geekgirlsrule on November 18, 2007

I’ve been listening to podcasts for several years now, mostly of my favorite political talk radio shows from Air America Radio and, for some completely stupid reason, it never occurred to me that there might be OTHER sorts of podcasts out there.  You know, podcasts about stuff I like that won’t make my blood pressure shoot up and make my strangling hand all itchy.  Recently, I’ve discovered several of these podcasts, and Mr. Geek Girl What Rules has been devotedly listening to hours upon hours of podcasts about gaming, EscapePod and others at work on his mp3 player.

I’ve mentioned Girl-Wonder.org before in this column, because I love it.  I really enjoy their columnists, even if we don’t always see eye to eye on certain things or ways of expressing ourselves.  A couple of months back, they added a podcast to their repertoire:  Four Color Heroines.

I really enjoy the Four Color Heroines podcasts.  Kim the Comic Book Goddess, Hannah Dame and Kate are all very well-spoken, articulate women who love comics and also know that loving something doesn’t have to, and shouldn’t, blind you to it’s faults.  Like I said, I don’t always agree 100% with their opinions, but it’s really nice to hear smart, funny women dishing on comics and comic fans, artists and authors, and to know that I’m not alone in my conflicted feelings about the media.

They don’t have very many podcasts up yet.  They’ve got four episodes named as such and a grand total of six all together.  But they’re all entertaining.  From the interview with the woman who asked about Stephanie Brown at the DC Nation panel at the ’07 San Diego Comicon, to the reactions of the female comic fan-verse to the Tygra beatdown, to why aren’t there any new Hostess Fruit Pie superhero ads in comics?

Seriously, though, I don’t know how anyone could listen to these women talking about comics and not get how much they love this medium.  They’re knowledgeable and highly insightful.  Even when I don’t agree with them (and they don’t always agree with one another), I can see where they’re coming from in their interpretations.

So, go check them out, give them a listen and enjoy.
